We are pleased to announce that BC Ministry funding may be available for an oral appliance to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for eligible individuals receiving BC income assistance or disability assistance.
Under BC Ministry regulations, a mandibular advancement device may qualify as a funded medical device when the required medical criteria and Ministry authorization requirements are met.
Who May Qualify?
You may be eligible if you:
- Are currently receiving BC disability assistance or income assistance
- Have a diagnosis of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
- Require treatment for your sleep apnea
- Meet the Ministry’s medical and authorization requirements
The Ministry requires appropriate medical documentation, and approval must be obtained before the device is provided.
An Alternative to CPAP May Be Available
For individuals who are unable to tolerate CPAP or who require an alternative treatment, an oral appliance may be an appropriate option. The Ministry regulations specifically provide for a mandibular advancement device when the Ministry is satisfied that the patient is intolerant to positive airway pressure therapy.
